world-class standards. We invite you to be a part
of this transformative journey in the world of film and television.


  • Our flagship initiative, The IBFC Fiction Narrative Programme is a dynamic 3-month journey designed for 7 established writer/producer teams with promising concepts that speak to a specific genre.
  • This programme aims to develop 4x feature films and 3x episodic narratives (6 episodes per series), paving the way for fresh innovative storytelling.
  • We seek to explore the theme – “Diversity in Creation” – encouraging diverse and inclusive narratives.
  • Our approach will be to prioritise genre-specific stories that resonate with local and international audiences.


  • Participants will embark on a journey guided by reputable mentors, punctuated along the way by narrative and producing practitioners.
  • We focus on guiding the writer in strengthening their narrative concept within the parameters of genre. Our key focus areas during the journey are character, structure, and theme.
  • Our aim is to enable the writer’s process as they design the concept into a compelling pitch deck.



  • Only open to Black Tier 2 filmmakers – citizens and permanent residents of South Africa
  • Open to IBFC members
  • Filmmakers whose projects are accepted into the programme must become members of the IBFC before the programme’s commencement


Filmmakers with limited experience but who have developed and produced

    • 1-2 feature films (theatrical, streaming, made for TV).
    • 1-2 Television Series
    • 1-2 Web based Series or feature films
    • 4+ short films (Made for TV, Festivals, Pilots, Proof of concept) seeking to venture into feature film/series
      development and production.
    • Have a minimum 5 years of industry experience

In addition ,all participants are allowed to partner with one other person of their choice – a
Writer/Director/Producer/Production Company attached, who is also Tier 2.


  • A completed online application form.
  • A 2–3 Page written concept for the narrative feature-length film or drama series.
  • Option rights if the concept is based on a book or a person’s life.
  • Original Ideas accompanied by a Chain of Title.
  • Filmography OR CV and Showreel (links to works) of the main and secondary applicant
  • One Page Motivational Letter.
  • Certified ID copy (double-sided) of both participants.
  • Company CK or sole proprietor documents
  • BEE affidavit or certificate
  • Certified Company Proof of Address.
  • Completed Declaration from


  • Participants will be selected by an independent panel of experts.
  • All materials submitted for the application will remain the intellectual property of the applicant.
  • All Applicants must be available from 10 November 2023 – 29 February 2024
  • Scripts are not a submission criteria. Any submission of scripts will result in a disqualification
